How to Measure your Window for Curtains

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WINDOW - CURTAINS

When measuring for a curtain it is better to use a metal ruler / tape measure as fabric tape measures can stretch giving inaccurate results.

WIDTH IMPORTANT:
Measure the track or pole to get the width measurement of your window for your curtains.

When measuring a track allow for each end of the curtain to fold around the corners of the track.

When measuring a pole, exclude the finials (decorative end pieces). For both poles and tracks allow for 2.5cm overlap of fabric in the middle. Note: The rod or track should overhang the window on each side by 20-40cm (except in corners). The wider the window, the larger the overhang.

DROP / LENGTH

To measure the drop for curtain tracks, measure from the top of the curtain track down to the level you want curtains to hang, usually 2 cm above the floor for hem allowance.

For a track, measure from the top of the track.

For a pole, measure from the bottom of the ring.

Note:

A slight variance in drop can be achieved by the size or the type of hook you use (i.e. smaller or larger) or if hanging pencil pleat curtain using one of the 3 different hook pocket levels.
